The AAHA Helping Pets Fund (the Fund) is the benevolent arm of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Foundation. The Fund provides financial assistance to treat any animal whose primary purpose is companionship. To be eligilbe, the animal must be sick, injured, or in need of emergency care.

To be eligible you must fit into one of two categories:

A) Documented financial hardship - Pet owners receiving government assistance for low income individuals or families are eligible. In these cases, documentation of current participation in one of the following government assistance programs is necessary:

** Food Stamp Program
** Unemployment Insureance (UI)
** Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
** Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
** Medicaid

B) Temporary financial hardship - Under rare circumstances, pet owners experiencing temproary financial hardship may be eligible. In these cases, a letter or email signed or authorized by the veterinarian describing circumstances causing the financial hardship is submitted with a grant application. Supporting documentation from a third party(ies) is required.

The Fund will award a grant only for needed medical care (non-elective or emergency procedures) for sick or injured companion animals. Routine physical examinations, vaccinations, etc. will not be funded. General prophylactic dental care will not be funded. Spays and neuters will not be funded, unless it can be demonstrated that the procedure is essential to the continued health of the animal.
